The Live FED UP material on this new release was recorded on November 30th, 2003 at the legendary CBGB's in New York City. The line-up for FED UP, includes DENNIS F.U. on vocals, Efren on drums, Dave M. on guitar and Dave 'Skin' G. on Bass. The original bass player is Luis M.I.A. and Jesse Gasface sang guest vocals on 'Bacardi & Blunts.' On the 'Live at CBGB' CD Dennis and FED UP rip through 'Sick Fucks,' 'Bitch Slap,' 'Rebels,' 'Elimination,' 'Lashing Out,' 'Snitch Bitch,' 'Stand Proud,' 'Hamburger Deluxe,' 'Drunken Violence,' 'Chupa Chocha,' and 'All I Ask' (originally performed by BREAKDOWN). FED UP! Are pure NYHC – tons of attitude and aggression and a heavy, powerhouse hardcore sound and this all comes through in the live recording which is great because live stuff can go either way and sometimes you end up getting a flat and thin, pale version of the actual even and with a hardcore band, that’s gonna destroy it completely so it’s good to hear that this is a powerful and faithful recording. Of course you can only get so close with a live recording and it’s never going to be like actually being there but this is a first-class depiction of FED UP! live. It’s fast and frantic with hostility oozing out of the speakers and it’s a great mix too, everything is totally audible and sounds great. I know a lot of people are on the fence when it comes to live records and they are usually something reserved for real fans but I would put this right up there with FED UP!’s studio recordings, there’s a lot of energy here and the fact that the recording / mixing is so good makes it a really good release. The recording quality really fucking rawks... 100% Oi /Hardcore! If you like The 4 Skins, Murphy's Law, Breakdown, or Agnostic Front you will like this CD. I wonder if it was recorded at a Saturday Afternoon Hardcore show? I really enjoyed 'Sick Fucks' and 'Bacardi and Blunts' ... Hardcore lovers order this record now. FED UP!- LIVE AT CBGB CD Review in Quality of My Life Zine #46 Apparently this was recorded the same day they named the street next to CB's 'Joey Ramone Way', Pretty historic. Like how the CD's Liner notes said 'people came into the club to envy(?) our culture or be offended by us', I believe the latter. FED UP were cool b/c they didn't try to blow the ladder while alienating their friends and fans to try to make it big AND fail miserably like every other band did in NYC. It's lame how kids would rather call a 3rd rate MADBALL or HATEBREED a HC band, or even worse a band that calls themselves a HC band and covers SEPULTURA, yet snubs this. They are one of the select few NYHC bands that play NYHC, true dat. If you like old-school NYHC with offensive lyrics, you're in luck. This show was fun, I almost didn't get in and I sang one tune with the band. Show was a blast I miss CBGB'S. FED UP! LIVE AT CBGB REVIEW IN WONKA VISION ZINE There are some really bad live albums out there: foggy, poorly done discs that at best can make you a little sad when you think of how much better this show must have been for anybody who was really there. Then there are great live albums, and despite fairly standard New York hardcore musical fare, Fed Up’s Live at the CBGB is, without a shadow of doubt, in the latter category. Fed Up’s style consists of wild guitar riffs, lyrics shouted at a machine gun pace, and also some drumming. Interspersed is some between-song banter, about what you’d expect from a band that named another CD “Fuck Your Life.” The lyrics may be pretty provocative as well, but you’d be hard-pressed to decipher them. However these fairly simple components manage to sound really great here: there’s something about the way the songs are done that seems to break them up into their component pieces, where you can fully grasp each element. It’s hard to describe, but there’s a clear starkness here that just makes the naked aggression of these songs that much more striking. The pace is kept up well, rare is the song here that lasts more than two minutes, and that speed serves to keep the songs from overstaying their welcome. Despite a few interesting deviations, like the comparatively slow, grinding pace of “Bodacious Ta Tas” or some spotlight worthy guitar solos earlier in the album, the songs all do sound somewhat the same, but they change so quickly that the momentum never really stops. It works well, and some tracks like the 45-second “Bacardi and Blunts” are great fun: sure, there’s the thought that it might wear on the nerves as a full length song but at 45 seconds it’s both fun and somehow funny. Ultimately, even on this short disc the similarity does wind up hurting the fun-factor of the album, but it will still mostly likely be candy to those who like their hardcore to be “aggressive and raw.” Perhaps more surprising is that even those whose tastes run in other directions might find themselves, at the very least, respecting this as a very tight and well done live album wherein the band plays their material in top form. Whatever your opinions on this sort of music, this CD is clearly that music done right. [By Ryan Simmons] Review in Emptyhands Zine FED UP! “Live @ CBGBs” (2003) United Riot Records Sounds great for a live cd. Wish the bass was a touch higher, though. Vocals are clear and discernable. Band is tight and clean. Anyway – lots of energy and spite – straight nyhc – really reminds me of Downlow. Sounds like NRSV, Breakdown (incl. is an “All I Ask” cover) and Killing Time; or a heavier version of Warzone or Against the Grain. Short songs, good mosh parts; fast punky verses with chunky/sludgy breakdowns. Heavy riffs that push through a frenzied, angry set. Tough lyrics about the street and crews and the scene, with some humor here and there. Unity! NYHC at its best. The Live set catches the energy well.. Good Stuff. Hoist a pint and get those boots stomping. Oi!
