Johanna Iivanainen has been better known for working with some first class musicians in Finland and for her Sony Jazz Award in 2003. But here comes change; her first own debut album is 100% her own material, based on singer/songwriter tradition with some fresh influences of jazz- ,pop- and even ambient music.The songs on the debut were born and matured for the last six years, during which Johanna performed and perfected the material in concerts, either as a duo with guitarist Mikko Iivanainen or accompanied by a rhythm section consisting of bassist Lasse Lindgren and drummer Mikko Kaakkuriniemi. The album also features guest talents Abdissa Assefa on percussions, Kimmo Pohjonen on accordion and Ville Riippa on keyboard. The song selections, all written and composed by Johanna, reflect the versatile nature and wide stylistic range of the singer. Albeit generally considered a jazz singer par excellence, a great deal of the album material reflects influences of the singer-songwriter tradition - songs that incorporate the jazz philosophy with nuances of pop, Latin-Americana and even ambient. Johannas beautiful interpretations are further enhanced by Mikko Iivanainens rich and inventive guitar textures and accompanied by the subtle dynamics of the rhythm section.
