Cortango Orquesta is a collaborative ensemble joining classical musicians from the Saint Louis Symphony with musicians of the jazz and tango genres. Named by founder and leader Cally Banham for her instrument, the 'cor anglais', Cortango was born in May 2013 from a desire to create a live music experience which would be ideal for social dancers, and has since evolved to become a concert ensemble as well. This album makes offerings in both arenas, including a jocular vals tanda, two milonga tandas, and tangos by great masters Pugliese and Fresedo, among others. Also represented here is the supremely expressive music of Astor Piazzolla. 'Tandas' is the Debut Album of Cortango Orquesta.
