“Keeping The Promise” is a compilation of songs & poems written by Jon George from age 17 to 23. They are full of human insight, reflecting the wonder and thinking of a very introspective young man. Jon performed these songs and began to record them in late 2005. On January 24, 2006, Jon suffered a massive heart attack caused by an undiagnosed enlarged heart and passed away into the eternal, spiritual world. For the next seven years, Jon’s father Wayne recorded this CD to “keep the promise” he and Jon made to each other get his music recorded and released to share with everyone. If you ever had the chance to see Jon George perform back in the early 2000s, you would have thought ‘this kid’s far too young’ to be so capable of playing so many of the greatest rock ‘n roll classics and awesome some original compositions. You’d likely have thought: ‘this kid was born in the wrong generation; he’s so young, but plays like a pro and looks like he’s a child of the 60’s!” Jon George’s music inspired listeners with a sound and feel reminiscent of the “good old days” of rock ‘n roll…to a time when simple lyrics and raw, hard rhythms were the foundation of an entire generation of music…and life. On a more personal level, unlike his animated, on-stage persona, Jon was a quiet and sincere true-to-life artsy-type. Through his long, curly locks of Robert Plant-like hair he looked as though he should be performing at a San Francisco peace rally in the early-70’s with Jimmy Hendrix, Janice Joplin and the Jefferson Airplane. Jon’s songs range from the heart-wrenching ballad “Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder” which ironically speaks about losing a loved one, to the enchanting, poetic storyline told in “Train To California”; to the sobering, yet peaceful reality of “In The Blue Of The Sky.” Jon George, in his songs and poems, much like The Beatles or The Eagles, sings about the ups and downs of love and the ins and outs of relationships with friends and family through simple, yet insightful and memorable lyrics and melodies. His songs are the kind that make you feel as though they are already being played on the radio. Wayne George, Jon’s father worked with many talented musicians to complete this work. The mutual respect and unconditional love displayed by these musicians that Jon touched in just a few short years is felt in every song. It is a testament to their unselfish dedication to the ‘fellowship of music’ and their love for Jon. Jon always said: “Music is an awesome way for people to connect, reflect and make lifelong, meaningful memories.” It is the hope of all involved with this CD, dedicated to this special young man, that those who listen to Jon’s works with be forever moved and inspired. “After life…Keeping the Promise” is just that…the product of a deeply shared love of relationship, family and music between a son and his father. A love that lasts eternally…far beyond the life we live here on earth.
