Now best known for his children's books, he first gained notoriety as a cartoonist for Playboy in the late '50s & soon after that was cutting records that spanned the pop spectrum from jazz to folk to county. This is Silverstein's very first LP, originally released in 1959. Hairy Jazz is a bit of an anomaly in the Silverstein catalogue in that it only contains two original songs, the rest of the album being his own unique take on a selection of jazz standards. The debut release from one of America's true originals, on CD for the first time.
