Pan-Asian in a volcanic, Pacific Rim kinda way, the BUTTERSPRITES draw energy from downtown Tokyo, mossy Seattle pubs, cartoon monsters and some glamorous parallel universe of glitter and ersatz nurse uniforms. They are fierce, fun, fabulous and now-y. Their simple and charming sound is like a soundtrack from an eighties independent flick, in Japanese and English lyrics. Their live show is not to be missed, as they design and make fabulous, matching outfits such as space-girl, naughty nurse or Tyrolean milkmaid. The BUTTERSPRITES are composed of visual artist and former rugby star Elizabeth Jameson on guitar; vintage motorcycle racer Jen Gay on drums; 1/2 Nina Hagen, 1/2 Yoko Ono and 1/2 Bjork and an accomplished Butoh dancer is vocalist Haruko Nishimura; jet-setting photo-journalist Julie Grant is on keyboards; and laptop warrior and Hawaiian sugar princess Lunarre Omura plays bass.
