Popis - CROSSWALK:
Alycea and the X Isles are a NYC area based band. Thirteen Moons is the band's first full length release. The project was produced by Alycea Ench and Rick Ench and is released under the 5th World label. 5th World derives it's name from the Hopi Indiian Prophecy of the 5 Worlds or world ages. According to this tradition, we are currently lliving in the Fourth World. A world plagued by war, division, oppression, inequality, greed, environmental devastation and fear. The Fifth World will be a world based on love for others, fairness, equality, healing of the planet and peace. As far as we're concerned, it cannot come too soon. The band is comprised of musicians with various backgrounds who represent the America of today. The ages range from twenties to one old rocker in his early 60's We've got democrats, independents, republicans, immigrants, anarchists and old yankees. The musicians playing on the CD are of European, African, Indian, Asian and Hispanic descent. They are as follows: Alycea Ench - beautiful singer/songwriter, activist and world traveller - wrote the music & lyrics for tracks 1, 7, 9 & 11; wrote the music for all other tracks except track 6, 8 & 10; co-wrote the music for tracks 6 and 8; and co-wrote the lyrics for all other tracks. She's the lead singer and plays acoustic guitar. Alycea began her journey through life on the White Mountain Apache Reservation of Arizona. Rick Ench - the whiteman - wrote the music and co-wrote the lyrics for track 10, 'Steal Your Days', and co-wrote lyrics for tracks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 12 & 13. He plays electric lead guitar on tracks 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, & 12; plays electric rhythm guitar on track 7; and plays acoustic rhythm guitar on tracks 9 & 10. When not playing music, Rick's a filmmaker and a consultant for American Indian Tribes assisting with community development and infrastructure projects. Ken Harten - versatile veteran musician of Irish descent - plays acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards and violin. Ken plays electric rhythm and lead guitar on tracks 4, 6, 10, 11 and 13. He also plays a Rickenbacker electric 12 string on 'Steal Your Days'. Ken plays piano on track 2, 'Second Avenue' and Hammond Organ on tracks 3 and 4. Lastly, he plays the tasty violin parts on track 7, 'Galicia'. Conan Hines - a no nonsense (well maybe a little nonsense) lawyer by day and musician by night - Conan plays electric bass guitar on all tracks except tracks 1 & 8. Jaspreet Singh - Sihk Indian American - fights for human rights and civil liberties as an attorney when not playing drums. He plays tabla (Indian drums) on tracks 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11. He also plays the djembe (African Drum) on track 1, 'By My Side'. Jo Domingo - Filipino American - plays sometimes subtle and sometimes kick ass drums on tracks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11 & 13. Jo also played drums on Alycea's 2008 EP 'Not Your Fool'. Moses Gunesch - Oregonian with the biblical first name - he laid down the law or at least the violin on track 2 ,'Second Avenue', and the mandolin on track 9, 'Take Me Back'. Moses played in Alycea's earlier band, Reign of the Elephants. JR Pinna - classically trained cellist has graced the CD with his cello playing on tracks 1, 8 and 11. The Pizzicato style of playing coupled with Jas's tabla and Ken's classical guitar gives an exotic feel to 'Wasting My Time' and also adds background color to 'Let the Rain Fall'. Carlos Colon - Puerto Rican American and NYC Native - brings a Latin feel to tracks 2 and 3 with his bongo and conga playing. Aedan Kefflew - beautiful, young Ethiopian now living in NYC - her contribution is the mellifluous background vocals on tracks 2, 3, 6 and 10. JoAnne Ledger - lovely veteran vocalist sings harmony on tracks 5, 9, 10, 11 & 13. JoAnne also does the riveting background scat singing on track 4 'Never Been a Fighter'. 40 Bars - rapper from California now living in NYC - 40's contribution is the rap poetry on Track 12, 'Piper to Pay'. This rap was recorded during the height of the 'Occupy Wall Street' activism in late 2011. We salute our brothers and sisters who are standing up everyday for fairness, equality, freedom and justice. 'A new day is dawning.' John Frater - guest guitarist and friend of Alycea's who happened to be in town and laid down the distorted electric guitar work on track 12, 'Piper to Pay'. Darren Lunar - Darren was the recording engineer for the entire project which was recorded at Mike Quinn's Studio in West Nyack, New York from Summer of 2011 to Spring of 2012. The Lunar Man (not lunatic) also plays a mean spoons on track 5, 'True Friends' and the maracas on track 9 'Take Me Back'. Catska & Cory Ench - the CD cover art for Thirteen Moons was created by these brilliant artists. They are located in Olympic Peninsula of Washington State and are well known in certain circles for having created the national posters for the Burning Man Festival for the past 5 years. Go to www.enchgallery.com to see more of their phenomenal work. Cory is Alycea's uncle and his wife Catska is Russian & Uzbek, born in Uzbekistan and now living in America. Melissa Gluck - highly talented and lovely NYC native - was the graphic designer for the CD cover. Yotam Ginzburg - Yotam is a classical and flamenco guitarist from Israel who played in Alycea's previous band, Reign of the Elephants, before relocating from NYC to San Francisco. Yotam's contribution was co-writng the music with Alycea for tracks 6 and 8.
