Woody Herman was an American jazz clarinetist, saxophonist and big band leader. He led various groups called The Herd. He came to prominence in the late 1930s and was active until his death in 1987. His bands played music that was cutting edge and experimental for its time. They received numerous Grammy nominations and awards. 'Children Of Lima' was originally issued on Fantasy Records in 1975. It is now making its worldwide CD debut. The highlight of this album is the 18-minute track 'Variations On A Scene', recorded with the Huston Symphony Orchestra.
