No historical account of fifties Rock and Roll would be complete without inclusion of the impact which white pop divas made upon the late fifties music scene. Like their male counterparts, they emerged from their post-Big Band crooning era of the late forties to adapt to the new Big Beat material at first promulgated mainly in the Rhythm and Blues field, then slightly modified (purists might say "adulterated" or "diluted") to suit the changing musical tastes of the teenage consumer of the period. Whatever your view, there can be little doubt that the music created by these femme rockers is today as popular with oldies fans as it was when it first made its appearance over five decades ago. One need only survey the number of reissue CDs devoted to artists such as the ones presented here, or check out the various YouTube postings for further proof of this phenomenon. The artists appearing on this compilation range from some of the most internationally famous and renowned entertainers of their day to the totally obscure one-hit (or even "no-hit") wonders who would today be completely forgotten were it not for their appeal to music collectors of the bygone era.
