Though she never really got the recognition she deserved, Wendy Rene still was a highly regarded soul/R&B singer and songwriter during the '60s. She was a member of the singing group The Drapels and, as a solo artist, was signed with Stax Records and Stax' subsidiary Volt. Her actual name was Mary Frierson, and it was none other than OTIS REDDING who suggested she'd give herself the stage name Wendy Rene. Her work has been samopled by artists s.a. Wu-Tang Clan and Alicia Keys. 2LP edition.
