Some of the compositions go back to the old fusion days, others bring in recent sounds and grooves, or have a more Latin approach, as the group got direct inspiration on a South-America tour! The musicians feel the production also as an hommage to the heroes of the Jazz-Rock and Funk orientied music of the 70s and 80s like Miles Davis, Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius, The Brecker Brothers, Dave Sandborn, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Larry Coryell, Dollar Brand, Billy Cobham or John Mc.Laughlin. They had a big influence on the general development of music! Also one the members of Ostinato is honoured here: Bumi Fian, the big trumpet player, who passed away much too early! He gave and took everything in playing and living! The recordings were basically made “live” in the studio, the goal was to stay very natural, just a few adds and “tricks” were done! Seit 1975(!) gibt es diese Funk- (& Latin-)Jazz-Band. Am Anfang und in der Hochblüte des Fusionjazz waren die ehrgeizigen Spitzenmusiker entscheidend an dessen Verbreitung beteiligt. Eine abenteuerliche Süd-Amerika Tournee brachte Erfolge und man nahm auch jede Menge Latein-Amerikanische musikalische Ideen wieder mit zurück nach Europa. Wolfgang Puschnig, Bumi Fian, Harry Sokal, Gina Charito, Peter Ponger, Bobby Dodge, Aaron Wonesch, Andi Steirer, Robert Riegler, Andreas Haderer, Martin Fuss, Christian Maurer, sind nur einige der vielen großartigen Musiker die im Laufe der Jahre mitgearbeitet haben. Sechs Alben und ein “Best Of” sind das Resultat dieser fruchtbaren Zusammenarbeit. Das vorliegende Album „Still Funky After All These Years“ ist abwechslungsreich und zeigt viele Möglichkeiten, was man so mit 3 Bläser und 5 Rhythmus machen kann! Die Musiker sehen die Produktion auch als Hommage an die Helden der Jazz-Rock und Funkorientierten Musik der 70-er und der 80-er, wie Miles Davis, Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius, The Brecker Brothers, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Larry Coryell, Dollar Brand, Billy Cobham und John Mc.Laughlin -sie haben nachhaltig die Entwicklung der Musik beeinflusst! Auch dem jahrelangen Ostinato-Weggefährten und zu früh verstorbenen Trompeter Karl Bumi Fian wird hier Tribut geleistet mit einem ihn gewidmeten Stück! Insgesamt: Fetzige funky Bläserphrasen, aufregende und geniale Solisten plus ein unglaublich groovender Rhythmus, das sind die Zusaten für diesen einmaligen OSTINATO-Sound!
