Moby Grape were formed by Alexander "Skip" Spence (who switched from drums to rhythm guitar) after his divorce from Jefferson Airplane. Launched with a pompous hype on the wave of the hippie phenomenon, Moby Grape debuted in June 1967 with an album of 13 songs. The album tried to appeal to hippies, with eclectic and eccentric songs such as 'Hey Grandma,' 'Fall On You,' 'As In The Morning,' or 'Changes.' It was an album of songs, in a period in which acid-rock was producing its most daring experiments.
