The music captures a wide corpus of styles and influence that appear globally, a particularly strong presence of prog rock, jazz, afrobeat, post-rock, and psychedelia. With sprawling hook laden groove based passages and schizophrenic fast paced genre-bending changes, Lapis push the envelope in every direction possible. Inspiration includes Fela Kuti, King Crimson, Magma, Frank Zappa, Soft Machine, Mahavishnu Orchestra, The Mars Volta, and Stravinsky.
