On 12th August 1990 the band had released Metallica, commonly known amongst fans and critics as The Black Album. The recording sessions had been a harrowing experience for all involved however; the group argued endlessly with producer Bob Rock over the sound of the record, and the countless takes and remixing costing in excess of $1 million in studio time. Metallica performed at the Woodstock 94 festival on Saturday 13th August, alongside Nine Inch Nails, Aerosmith and the Rollins Band, and showed no trace of tour fatigue as they produced a show generally considered to be one of their best ever. Broadcast live on local FM radio and containing cuts from their entire back catalogue, including Master Of Puppets , For Whom The Bell Tolls , One and Enter Sandman , this two disc collection captures their entire Woodstock performance which finds Metallica at the point at which they joined the mega-league of rock bands.
